Fall Pairings

We’re into August, which means fall styling is upon us [cue fist pump and large smile].  Fall trends and fashions are hitting stores and online boutiques full force.  Easily being my favorite season, I’m very excited to see it all happen.  The first time I see pumpkins lined up outside of the grocery store I squeal with delight each year.  The crisp air, chilly mornings, seasonal beer, and college football always have me smiling.

I played around on Polyvore to put together a few of my favorite looks that I want to recreate this season.  I’m also working on a wish list of items that I’d like to see grace my closet and help me achieve the looks I’m going for.  I adore denim on denim (aka, the Canadian tuxedo, as it is also lovingly referred to), buffalo plaid makes me giddy, soft knit sweaters, loafers, boyfriend jeans, and colored denim make my heart sing.  Each item is easily mixed and matched with others making it extremely versatile, which is my favorite thing of all!  Isn’t the casual fall season the best?!

Loafer Love ♥

Have you noticed that loafers have become extreme?  Some of the designs are a little too far out there for me, but there are so many that I wouldn’t mind (aka love) showing off and wearing around.  Besides the level of comfort they provide, they have become quite fashionable, proving they can be the best of both worlds instead of just your Uncle Benny’s favorite house attire.  I have gathered an assortment from an array of vendors and prices, ranging from bold & daring to simply stated.

I have two pairs of loafers that I scored from TJ Maxx at great prices that I am smitten with.  I feel as if I can pair them with multiple outfits and throw them on as easily as I can shuck them off.  I believe the collection should grow with a statement pair, right?

The pair in the picture above: Dolce Vita priced under $30, and the pair below with a casual look I wore earlier this week:  Report for under $20.

Four Ways – H&M Shorts

My friend Amanda and I have the same H&M floral shorts. We were talking about how cute they are the other day and she mentioned she wasn’t sure what she should wear with them – thus, a post was born. Even though these shorts are patterned and could be considered hard to pair with items, when you start putting outfits together and brainstorming, you can see they are very versatile. I try not to purchase something unless I can see myself wearing it, at minimum, 3 different ways. I like to have items I can mix and match and wear often (let’s get our money’s worth, ladies).  I went with a casual option and a dressier option (for a day date or the like) and two other day-to-day choices. I also thought of weather changes and looked for short sleeve and long sleeve items. These floral shorts can go from early spring to early fall if you really get creative. Enjoy!

Cool Breezes

Processed with Rookie Processed with Rookie Processed with Rookie

I saw a girl out walking her dog this afternoon during my drive home.  She was wearing one of my favorite looks.  I don’t know how she wasn’t keeled over from heat exhaustion, but that’s neither here nor there.  I am excited for cooler breezes and 70 degree temps to come around again so that boyfriend jeans and a lightweight sweater can be rocked on the regular.  When I was in LOFT I snapped a few pictures of what I thought would be a good fit and to keep ideas flowing for outfits – even year round – yes, I keep my eyes open for future seasonal pairings.  Wouldn’t these scarred boyfriend jeans look amazing with a simple heathered grey cardigan?  Especially if that cardigan had feminine jeweled embellishments?  YES!  A messy bun, a baseball cap, leather sandals, or low top converse.  Can you not see the very comfortable possibilities?  I’m in love with this easy look.  I hope that you are enjoying your summer so far, but bring on those cool breezes and fall dreams!  Haha!

I hope you’re having a great week!

The summer is my favorite time of the year for dressing.  I always catch myself saying during the colder months, “I can’t wait until I can throw on a sundress and sandals and be ready.”  It is the absolute truth, you hear me?  I love the fall more than anything in the whole wide world, but having to put on ten layers gets a girl down sometimes.  You can bet I’m certainly enjoying this season of “throw on & go” attire, but I’m trying to switch things up and make it as interesting as possible.

This skirt is one of my all time faves!  I got it for $6 at LOFT and I wear it spring through fall.  It looks adorable with a plaid button down shirt, statement necklace, and knee high cognac colored riding boots just as good as it looks with sandals and a bright tank in the summer.  Always think ‘versatility’ when making purchases!

I got bored with putting on a cardigan to keep myself warm at the office so I jazzed things up with a lightweight sweater over my dress to simulate a sweater and skirt effect.  It worked!  I tricked a few people, mu ah ha ha!

Another one of my favorite things about the summer is being able to put on a pair of jeans, sandals, and cute top with 1 accessory, such as a statement necklace or summer scarf, and look perfectly put together with such ease.  I don’t like jeans as much as dresses (I mean who doesn’t like to twirl?), but I do try my best to get some good use out of my denim and go casual some days with that easy look.  Not looking easy… you know what I meant!

Aren’t these shorts adorable?!?!  My friend Amanda and I have matching shorts from a shopping trip.  Sometimes we like twinning.  These shorts are lightweight, soft, and can easily pair with basic tops of all structures (tank, tee, button down, etc).  They would even look adorable with a pair of pink or red converse!  Again, versatility!

Here again I am trying to pull off that easy breezy summer look, this time with a lightweight scarf.  The entire look is comfortable and cute while being casual, yet put together.  Great for a “casual Friday” outfit, perhaps with ballet flats for offices that don’t allow sandals.

Hope you got some ideas for mixing up your own closet.  Enjoy!  See you next time!

Playing Dress Up

I’m a girl who loves to shop.  There are days that I look at my full closet and say, “I have nothing to wear” just like most other lovely ladies.  It usually has more to do with my mood than the availability of clothes, but I usually  have a small twinge of guilt after saying it because I do have an abundance of clothing, which I am blessed to have.  I LOVE to shop sales and thrift stores and see what I can get for the lowest cost, and I will continue to add pieces into my closet in that same fashion, but I am trying to use everything that I already have and mix it up to keep myself interested in the existing.  Therefore most of my items aren’t available for purchase still but I do love seeing other outfits on Pinterest and blogs so that I can get inspiration and ideas to influence my creativity for my own wardrobe.  That’s the idea here.  It’s my virtual closet so that I can do the same for others and help myself remember in future days.  I hope you enjoy!
